Super Bowl Buddies; Same Ducks, Different Year; Jay Leno in Yuma?
Sorry for the delay in posting; Wi-Fi has been down in the park for the last two days.
We arrived in Yuma Lakes on Sunday in early afternoon, just in time to get set up and then head over to the clubhouse for the Super Bowl party. We sat next to a really nice couple (Jack and Ruby) from Washington State, but who are now full-timing. Everybody brought something to share, and punch and popcorn was provided. There was a mix of Seattle and New England supporters, so it made for an interesting experience.
On Monday, we did a whole lot of very little. The weather is beautiful, sunny and quite warm during the day, but it cools off quite rapidly at night. We spent much of the day at the pool, then spent happy hour on the dock at the lake, where we reacquainted ourselves with our little band of ducks from last year, although Long John Quacker, the one-eyed mallard, is missing in action. We fed them bread and watched the sunset. Later on, as we sat outside Lucy, Jack and Ruby walked by and stayed for a glass of wine and some good conversation. Tough day.
Today we went into Yuma, where we did some grocery and clothes shopping, had lunch at a pretty good pizza place ($4.99 for an all you can eat pizza/salad bar), then picked up a couple of things at an RV supply place. I went to the counter with a burned-out bulb and made the mistake of asking the lady “Do you have something that looks like this?”, to which she replied “No, but I have something that looks better”, producing a bag with two replacement bulbs. I indicated that we were going to look around a bit; she said “OK, you can leave the bulbs with me or carry them with you, whatever makes you feel more secure”. A regular Jay Leno.
It was late afternoon when we returned, so we went back to the lake to feed the ducks and watch the egrets:
As the sun set, we listened to the coyotes howl as the full moon rose:
Yesterday (Wednesday), we again spent the day relaxing; quilting, reading, pool etc. We went over to our friends Jack and Ruby’s 38-foot motor coach for dinner and had a great time, returning around 10:45. They will be at their son’s place near Hemet California and have invited us to spend a day or two there after our Mexico and Disneyland visits, which we will probably do.
Today we made a lunch and took it down to the dock by the lake and fed ourselves and the lone duck that showed up. More pool time in the afternoon, then dinner at our place with Jack and Ruby, which lasted until almost 1:00 A.M. Off to Ramona tomorrow for 3 nights. Internet at the park is still down, so will try to post this at a McDonalds on our way out of Yuma.
